The German Computer Society (GI)’s working group on Visual Computing in Biology and Medicine will hold the MedVis and BioVis Workshop in conjunction with VCBM 2026 on Wednesday, September 16. The meeting is open to everyone interested, GI members and non-members. The meeting aims to foster exchange among computer scientists, engineers, and natural scientists. The focus will be on image analysis, visualization, and interaction techniques for image-based diagnostics, computer-assisted therapy planning, and related software tools. The Karl-Heinz Höhne (MedVis) Award recognizes outstanding contributions to the field of medical and biological visualization by young researchers. This year, three prizes will be awarded. During this session, the winners will present their work and receive their awards.

12:00 – 13:30 • Visual Storytelling for Health Communication

This session will be organized as a hands-on workshop that explores how complex health-related information can be communicated through visual storytelling. Working in small groups, participants will develop and discuss visualization ideas based on different narrative scenarios and background information. Through two rounds of collaborative ideation and iterative refinement, participants will create, present, and build upon visualization concepts. The workshop focuses on exploring how visual representations can make complex health information more understandable, engaging, and meaningful for prevention and public health communication.
