Transportation

While Ljubljana city center is compact and pedestrian-friendly, reaching the city may require some planning depending on your point of departure.

Train & Bus

For many participants, particularly those from neighboring countries, ground transport is the most practical option. The Ljubljana Railway Station and Ljubljana Bus Station are located next to each other, next to the city center.

  • By Train: Direct rail connections are available from nearby cities such as Vienna, Graz, Munich, Zurich, Zagreb, and Budapest. You can check schedules and book tickets via the Slovenian Railways (SŽ) website, or use providers like ÖBB (Austria) and DB (Germany).
  • By Bus: FlixBus and other international carriers offer rides from many European cities directly to the main bus station.

Plane

You can fly directly to Ljubljana or, due to often limited or expensive direct connections, fly to a larger airport nearby and take a shuttle.

1. Flying to Ljubljana (LJU)

  • Shuttle (Recommended): We recommend booking a shared shuttle via GoOpti or Nomago. This is reliable and often cheaper than a standard taxi.
  • Bus: A public bus (Arriva) runs between the airport and the main Ljubljana bus station (Ljubljana AP). The ride takes approximately 50 minutes.
  • Taxi: Taxis are available in front of the terminal, though they are significantly more expensive (approx. €40–€50) than booking a shuttle in advance.

2. Flying to Nearby Airports

  • Trieste (TRS) – Italy (~1.5 hours away)
  • Zagreb (ZAG) – Croatia (~2 hours away)
  • Venice (VCE or TSF) – Italy (~2.5 hours away)
  • Vienna (VIE) – Austria (~3.5 hours away)

Important: The most common way to travel from these airports to Ljubljana is via GoOpti. They specialize in connecting these specific airports to Ljubljana with shared or private shuttles. We advise booking your ride as soon as you have your flight details.
