Women Lunch Session

This first women lunch session is a social event  that gives anyone an opportunity to meet and exchange opinions and experience. For this first occurrence, we would like to bring a focus on how gender considerations differ from one country to another. 

We have the pleasure to open the discussions by a presentation of Dr Min Lu, from the Department of Computer Science, Shenzhen University, China. Participants will then be invited to debate in smaller groups on whether, in their experience, the country of professional exercise has an impact on equal opportunity. It can be followed by an exchange on the mechanisms set by each country to reach gender equal opportunities. 

Opening Presentation

Short summary of the talk: In the talk, I will first report our recent survey of female researchers in the field of computer graphics and visualization in China.  The survey covers the aspects of work-life balance, difficulties and challenges, self-expectations and promotion opportunities, gender equality, and experience of gender balances, etc. Then I will elaborate on this topic with my own experience as a female researcher in China, as well as my perspective about gender balance considerations in China.

Min Lu is an assistant professor of Visualization and Visual Analytics (VIS) at Shenzhen University, China. She received the Ph.D. degree in Computer Science at Peking University. She was a post-doctoral researcher at the Spatial lab and Visual Computing Research Center of Shenzhen University. Her background is in Visualization, She is particularly interested in data-driven visualization style learning and designs. Dr. Lu has served as committee members for professional conferences (e.g. ChinaVis, PacificVis Notes, EuroVis Poster) and reviewers for top journals (e.g., TVCG, TITS).
