Map of the Randstad of The NetherlandsDelft is located centrally in the Randstad region of The Netherlands. The Randstad comprises of the four biggest cities of the Netherlands (Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague, and Utrecht), and, together with smaller cities like Delft is home to almost half of the population of the Netherlands. As such, Delft is very well connected can easily be reached by public transportation, being just ten minutes by train from either The Hague or Rotterdam and less than an hour from Amsterdam or Utrecht.

Reaching Delft by Train

Delft is connected mainly through the major Randstad cities mentioned above. Direct trains from London, Paris and Brussels to Rotterdam (and Amsterdam) are operated by Eurostar. From Germany, high speed trains operated by Deutsche Bahn usually go to Amsterdam through Utrecht. The Dutch Railway also operates an international booking site that can be used to find connections

There are a number of night-trains connecting the region to various locations in Europe:
European Sleeper provides direct connections between The Hague  and Berlin, Dresden and Prague.
The ÖBB Nightjet operates between Amsterdam and Zurich, Vienna, and Innsbruck, as well as various stops on the way (Munich, Nürnberg, Freiburg, Karlsruhe, Frankfurt (Main), Köln and others)

For local connection, dutch trains are operated by the Nederlandse Spoorwegen and tickets can but do not need to be booked easily on their website. The dutch public transport system (including trains, metro, trams, and busses) operates using a check-in/check-out system and charges are calculated for the exact trajectory. While a specific card for this exists, visitors can simply tap in and out using a credit or debit card. More details can be found here.

Reaching Delft by Plane

From Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. Amsterdam Airport Schiphol services all major airlines. The train connection from Schiphol to Delft is a 40-60 minute train ride. Trains leave from Schiphol roughly every quarter of an hour. More information.

From Rotterdam The Hague Airport. The nearest airport is Rotterdam, The Hague Airport. This airport has 40 destinations in Europe and by its size, has a shorter check-in time. From here, a bus and train are needed to reach Delft (30-40 minutes). Or take a 15 minute taxi ride to Delft. More information.

In Delft

Bus. Once in Delft, several buses depart from the main station (simply named Delft) to the university campus. All buses use the same tap in/out mechanism as indicated above and can be used with just a credit or debit card.
Due to construction on campus, there are currently two busroutes operating on either side of the campus (North-South direction).
On the east side of campus you can take buses 69 and 174 from Station Delft. These are particularly well suited to reach Aula, the workshop location on Tuesday and Wednesday. Exit stop Christiaan Huygensweg. Going two stops further on the same busses to Van der Burghweg, you can also reach the X Theatre for the main conference with a short walk.
On the west side of campus you can take bus 40 towards Rotterdam and exit at stop Balthasar van der Polweg. A short walk will lead to X Theatre for the main conference.

Note: recently the old Delft Zuid station has been (somewhat misleadingly) renamed to Delft Campus. The Delft Campus station is a roughly 15 minutes walk to the X Theatre where the main conference takes place. While this is shorter than from Delft central, there is essentially no public transport from Delft Campus station to the campus.

Tram. Unfortunately, the tram line towards campus is not operational at this moment.

Bike/Fiets. The Netherlands are famous for roughly 110% of its population regularly biking. We highly recommend renting a bike to get around. Even if you stay in The Hague or Rotterdam it might be feasible if you are used to cycling 10-15km. There are plenty of places where you can rent a bike, for example Fielfiets andBikeTotaal. Some hotels also offer rental bikes. In addition the bike sharing operators Donkey Republic and Felyx operate in Delft. New users of Donkey Republic can ride 30 minutes for free using the code “DELFT”. New users of the Felyx app can receive a discount on a ride with an electric shared bike by using the code ‘DELFT12’.

Delft shuttle service. Delft has a TukTuk shuttle service running every day from 10:30 to 17:00. There are several stops around the city, including one at TU Delft library. The day ticket costs € 5,-.

By car. The campus is easily accessible by car via the A13, exit Delft/Pijnacker and exit 10 Delft Zuid/TU-wijk. Paid parking is available across campus.
